Mr & Mrs Taylor’s Customer Story

Mr & Mrs Taylor’s Customer Story

We helped Steven and Julia Taylor create the perfect staircase, here’s their Customer Story.

Mr & Mrs Taylor wanted to take advantage of the natural light coming in from the massive expanse of windows and bi-fold doors at the back of their house and also make the most of the stunning views they enjoyed, overlooking the River Severn. Their old staircase was stark and white with solid balustrades and a partition wall, so they wanted to create something warm, welcoming, light and spacious.

Texture and depth

Steven and Julia had a clear idea of the approach they wanted to take on their staircase renovation. “When it came to replacing our staircase we wanted to add texture and depth rather than opting for an all-white or glass design as this would have made the space feel cold and stark.”

To achieve this, the designers at Jarrods created a modern yet classic combination of natural oak and glass panels with stainless steel fixtures, blurring the boundaries between a sleek, contemporary design and the natural look of wood.

Spacious and light

The previous staircase had solid balustrades and a partition wall along its left-hand side, which was a waste of space. This was opened out to give more width on the stairs and also added to the open-plan feeling of the downstairs kitchen, dining and seating area.

Keeping the newel posts in the design gave the staircase a more classic look, while the glass panels added the modern slant that Steven and Julia were after.

Understanding the brief

They couldn’t have been happier with the approach that we took. “The Jarrods design team really took the time to listen to us and presented a design that fitted the brief perfectly. It showed that they understood exactly what we were after. We even added some quirky extras, with LED lights in the framework under the glass balustrade on the landing. It looks fantastic when it’s lit up at night!”

The Jarrods difference

We asked Steven and Julia what made Jarrods different. “Having researched staircase companies online we asked several to quote for completing the work, but Jarrods stood out from the rest.

“Not only did they work closely with us – and really listen – to present us with a design we loved but the design team were even able to match the natural oak of the staircase to the Karndean flooring that we had chosen. No other company could do this for us!”
